I’m Brit Hansen, I Carve Paint and other things.
Art is in my blood
I love living in the desert and was born and raised in AZ. I am a fourth generation artist and discovered my love of printmaking during college.
After graduating with a bachelors in fine art, I went on to be a photographer and found printmaking again 6 years later after I was put on bed rest while pregnant with my first baby.
I had always loved carving but found my voice and style during those months of being at home. I have been hooked ever since and my style is ever evolving.
I now carve linoleum block, wood block and painted panels and you can follow along with my latest work on Instagram @brithansen.art.
I love sharing behind the scenes in Instagram but I give extra attention to my email list.
What I love to create…

2. Geometric Designs
3. Anything with black and gold
My Process
I always start with a color palette.
Before I can create an artwork I need to know what colors I will be using and in what order I will layer them and how thick they need to be. Depending on what kind of cuts I will be making will determine how thick the color layers are. Once I have that all figured out I can start layering the board which takes about 3-5 weeks.
Sometimes I already have the design drawn up and sometimes its just in my head and I sketch it out onto the painted panel before I start carving.
I feel more confident with a carving tool in my hand than a pencil.
I lose myself and sense of time when carving. I can sit and carve for hours and a single work can take me upwards of 40 hours to create.
are you an artist?
I love connecting to other artists. You are not just a number on a list to me, but a real person with beautiful artwork. I want to see it! Visit my artist page and let’s connect.
